Best Time to Trek
For warmer weather, visit between March and May. For cooler, windier conditions, July to September is ideal . Best chances for clear views are between January and March . Riverston is beautiful year-round but can be misty at any time.
Climate & Weather
Weather conditions are well manageable as Riverston is much closer to the dry zone of Knuckles, with climate usually not very cool . Temperatures range 15°C-25°C. Some times of the year the whole area is full of mist . Pack layers and rain gear.
Location & Access
Located about 30km from Matale town along the Matale-Hettipola or Matale-Girandurukotte Road . About 176 kilometers from Colombo, reachable by train to Kandy, then vehicle to Matale and Riverston . Scenic winding roads with hairpin turns.
Trek Difficulty
Trails suitable for anyone from beginners to experts. The path to Riverston Peak is well-marked and completed in a few hours . The 2-kilometer trek to the summit is relatively easy yet rewarding . Mini World's End walk is 750 meters taking 15-20 minutes .
Entry & Facilities
Entrance fees are LKR 60 for locals and LKR 975 (approximately USD 3) for foreigners at Pitawala Pathana . Open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM . Basic facilities including restrooms and small vendors available. Parking at trailheads .
Safety & Precautions
During windy season, take extreme care when walking up to the edges of rock extrusions at Mini World's End. Crawl at the edge for safety . Wear sturdy hiking shoes. Check weather forecast before starting . Stay on marked trails. Bring sufficient water.
